Dental Implants

When you know that you want to do something about your smile and overall dental functionality, there are more options today than there ever were before. Instead of having to look at choices like partial or full dentures, many people today are looking to dental implants as the answer.

What Is A Dental Implant?

These are metal frames or posts that are put into place surgically. The posts are implanted into the jawbone right beneath the gums. Once the implant is in place, your dental professional is then able to mount the replacement teeth onto the track.

What makes a dental implant work is that it is fused into the jawbone and the final result is the stable support necessary to hold an artificial tooth. When you have bridges or dentures mounted using implants, they are not going to shift or slip inside your mouth, which is important when it comes to functions such as speaking and eating. This is a fit that is nice and secure so that the teeth will feel much more natural than the conventional bridges and dentures that we all know.

For some patients, simply having traditional dentures or bridges are simply not possible or even comfortable if they are able to get them. These types of dental options will often come with issues like poor ridges, gagging, and sore spots. With a traditional dental bridge, it will have to be attached to the teeth that are located on either side of the missing tooth, which causes damage. With an implant, there is never the need for any preparation or grinding to the existing teeth in order to have the replacement teeth put in.

If you are interested in dental implants, you will have to have enough bone in order to hold and support the implant along with healthy gums. Patients also have to be committed to keeping the implants nice and healthy, which will mean going through with regular dental visits and staying on top of oral hygiene. All of this is done to help ensure that long-term success of the implants themselves.

However, the dental implant is known for being an option that is more expensive than other methods for replacing teeth. In some instances, dental insurance carriers may only cover a small portion of the fees that are involved. If you are interested in getting the implants that you need to improve your dental health and overall functionality, it is best to do some research to check into all of your options before deciding.
